Frankfurt (officially: Frankfurt am Main; lit. "Frank ford at the[a] Main") is a metropolis and the largest city of the German federal state of Hesse.

In Inglourious Basterds

While the city is not shown in the film, several characters mention it. Wilhelm's son Max was born in Frankfurt, in early June 1944, as mentioned by Wilhelm himself in the tavern from Nadine. In the La Louisiane tavern, Major Dieter Hellstrom correctly guesses Hugo Stiglitz's birthplace, after the latter's accent.

Trivia

• In the La Louisiane tavern, the Gestapo Major demonstrates his knowledge of German accents as if he had a superior talent for it. However, this isn't impressive at all, once you consider that the English language equivalent would be the ability to distinguish between accents from places such as Cornwall, Birmingham, Newcastle, Edinburgh, etc. or from US states if you're American. German dialects and accents differ from region to region and, for German speakers, are quite distinguishable, although Hellstrom was able to correctly pinpoint Wicki's home town of Munich, for example.
