Bridget and the Germans play the card name guessing game

The game really is fun.

“So gentlemen... the object of the game is to... write the name of a famous person on your card. Real or fictitious, doesn't matter. For instance, you could write, Confucius or Doctor Fu Manchu. Eric! More pens. And they must be famous, not aunt Frida. When you finish writing, put the card face down on the table. And move it to the person on your right- Thanks. The person to your left moves his card to you. You pick up the card without looking at it... lick the back... and stick it on your forehead...”
Dieter Hellstrom

The Who Am I? (improperly called card name game) or Guess Who is a game played by Wilhelm with his German comrades and by the Basterds with Hellstrom in the La Louisiane tavern from Nadine.

Overview[]

The game involves writing the name of a famous character (actor, writer, composer, fictional character, etc.) on the back of a card, then flipped to conceal the name, which is then passed to the next person, who sticks the card on its forehead, so that it doesn't know what's written on the card, while everybody else can see it, and will attempt to guess the name of the character by asking the other people a series of "yes" and "no" questions.

In Inglourious Basterds[]

Bridget von Hammersmark, Wilhelm and his friends were playing the card name game. Later, Bridget, Hicox, Stiglitz, Wicki and Hellstrom were playing it as well, at the latter's suggestion.

Trivia[]

  • Although Smithson Utivich doesn't get involved in the tavern, the Guess Who card game from the movie resembles the one seen in episode 2 of The Office, Diversity Day, that B.J. Novak (who plays Utivich in the film) wrote, albeit the cards from the The Office are about different nationalities and ethnicities rather than names of famous people.
