Shoulder patch of the 1st Special Service Force

Shoulder patch of the 1st Special Service Force.

The Devil's Brigade (also called The Black Devils and The Black Devils' Brigade and Freddie's Freighters) officially the 1st Special Service Force, was an elite joint WWII American-Canadian commando unit organized under command of the United States Fifth Army in 1942 and trained at Fort William Henry Harrison near Helena, Montana, United States of America.

The brigade fought in the Aleutian Islands, Italy, and southern France before being disbanded in December 1944.

In Inglourious BasterdsEdit

Lt. Aldo Raine is a member of the 1st Special Service Force. He is seen wearing the unit's shoulder patch on his uniform during his introduction scene where he briefs the Basterds about their mission to kill Nazis in France.

  • In real life, the 1st Special Service Force was disbanded in December 1944, which in the film would be 6 months after the events of Chapter Five. Since the war is supposed to end after the Operation Kino's outcome, which was in June 1944, the status of the military unit after the war remains unexplained.
